Support into Employment

The new global pandemic, Covid-19 and the current government lockdown has disrupted not only everyones 'normal' way of life, but it has also placed enormous pressure on the services, social care professionals provide in order to support individuals who may be struggling within their lives. 

Since 2017 the Building Better Opportunities: Support into Employment project, has successfully supported individuals who struggle with a variety of challenges, to breakdown the barriers that impact their ability to achieve their goals and aspirations.


The majority of this success, is in some part down to the relationship built between the client and the 'working mentor'. Face to face contact is vital for individuals to feel that they are being listened too and heard; incorporating body language and other non verbal communications is key to this positive, solution focused relationship.

However, the government lockdown which was implemented on the 23rd March 2020, has meant that face to face contact with clients, has had to stop in order to keep everyone safe and to follow government policy. Nevertheless, the current situation does not mean that the previous  struggles of individuals have disappeared over night and it is vital, now more than ever that we can offer support to those who need it most.

This is the reason why the BBO project has been continuing to support their current clients during this time, through telephone appointments and video calling; helping to breakdown a variety of barriers, offering emotional and practical support and successfully negotiating employment, education and training opportunities.

Support into employment is a project funded by the  National Lottery Community Fund and the European Social Fund

The aim of the project is to support people who experience mental health issues OR overcome any barriers that they feel are standing in their way to moving forward.

At Northampton and District Mind we have a team of dedicated working mentors that will work with you on a 1:1 basis supporting you to take steps to achieve your goals.

To be eligible for this support you must not be in employment and are eligible to work in the UK.
